It was a big weekend for curling not only for local teams but on a national scale as well.

At the Northerns in Melfort, Kerrobert's Brad Heidt won the "A" final, while Glenn Heitt of Unity advanced from the "B" event. Winning "C" berths were five time Provincial Senior Champion and defending champion, Eugene Hritzuk and Mike Gartner.

Jennifer Jones and Team Canada was able to make it three years in a row, once again winning the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. It took an extra end before Team Canada would beat Prince Edward Island 8 to 7. It was the first time for PEI in the final while it was Jones fourth Scotties title. Team Canada will now go on to represent Canada at the World Women's Championship in Swift Current, March 20-28.
